Big surprise! Zegna leads the way. Ermenegildo Zegna. What kind of a name is that?
Not a house I usually touch. Boring. Middle-aged.
But just look at this! See graph below. Tiny boiled wool jackette and dog-toothed check trousers.
Yes, dog-toothed check is looking new in trousering this Autumn.
That’s it!
Otherwise it’s tiny jackettes and separates as before.
The Gay Mother was sniffy. Of that Zegna look, seen in Via Tornabuoni, Florence, she said: ‘You can’t wear that. You’re too big.’ ‘But I’ve been championing the tiny jackette for the last two seasons,’ I screeched. ‘I wear it superbly. Anyway I don’t care. It’s new. ‘ ‘You’ve got to be able to move in the jacket,’ she said. ‘No you haven’t. Jackets are tiny at the moment. You can’t move. It’s too bad. It’s what the houses are showing.’ ‘What a way of carrying on,’ the Gay Mother said.
For Ladies, it’s white. The houses are being controversial to say the least for how is a lady to manage a white coat in the Euro crisis? The Dry Cleaning.
She just will, I suppose. There’s no escape. It’s white dresses as well, the Burberry offering in a death-white, rather menacing: perhaps a killer nurse or extra-terrestrial personage.

Signor Zegna graciously designed my favourite tie, thank you very much. Lovely semi-abstract tulip design, perfect for garden visits and flower shows.
Worrying that the Armani trews look so pretty: don’t we normally not like?
Still, anything is better than the Italian confectionery the poor ladies are having to wear: how to choose between Prada marzipan and Burberry meringue?
You’re right: Armani struck off years ago. But Poor Little Rich Gays are ruthless and forgiving
Fashion at the moment is a gay designer conspiracy against women – how could I ever wear any of those monstrosities
Lose weight.
Have just had full Glyndebourne cake stand tea.
But you will wear them if they’re new
How the wheel of fashion turns. I remember Rufus Pitman on Bond St. once saying in withering tones “I’m sure Ermenegildo Zegna’s a very nice man…”
Yes, and rich! They were a fabric house originally and still are, I am told. Just as Fendi were furs and Gucci and Prada leather goods.
And Pucci’s were pizzas
Rilly!
