So much to tell about the dedicatees’ dinner for Rufus Pitman’s new novel, just out – but it’ll have to wait.
I’ve gained Rome! Nearly broke down to see ‘binario’ written up. Hadn’t expected it. Must be years since I was in an Italian railway station. They’ve been there all these years without me, the ‘binari’.
At Gatwick I bought a very difficult perfume by Chanel. ‘Pour Monsieur Concentrated’. It could be thought cloying and heavy. The Photo Multi was wearing it on Monday. I had to have it. I texted him from the airport shop: ‘You mostly get what you want,’ he replied.
Now I’m in Sonny’s apartment. Marble-lined! Huge and a roof terrace. We’ll be on it when it’s stopped raining. Sonny’s arranging tulips and I’ve hung up my outfits in a vast walk-in frock cupboard.
I’ve come in at the top in Rome after all!

I know it all looks a little bit overcast, but it is the eternal city. I shall expect some photos of the shorts fashion on the streets, as it were. Maybe Rufus Pitman can write a book about it.
That terrace looks like a greengrocer’s. Don’t they have proper flowers in Rome?
No, no. Wait for more graphs.
Am enjoying lying on the sun lounger soaking up all the sun one can get. It’s very comfy.
It looks a greta terrace – I wash I could lounge around more. Do all Romans have such gorgeous looking loungers?
No, only most upscale apartments in the rather chic centre of town
It’s now twenty-seven days since I was promised a detailed account of the dedicatees’ dinner for my new book, Bums and Buns By The Seaside. NO SUCH ACCOUNT HAS APPEARED.
I feel that Adrian should realize that without such an account, I have no idea whether the dinner was a success or not.
Also the new perfume worn for the occasion.
And I have brilliant news about Lord Arrowby’s latest doings and buyings, but I will only share that on receipt of a review of the dedicatees’ dinner.
Raj Zoroaster and I are going to St Petersburg to have dinner with the last of the Nuremberg prosecutors and to see Boris Godunov. I need to see the review on our return.
