All morning I’ve been troubled in my mind by pictures in the Daily Mail (left on the floor by a visitor) of Lord Mandelbaum’s Monday boarding outfit . I was too quick to judge yesterday. Something’s wrong with it but what exactly? As it happens, summer frockage is a challenge generally to the over 40s, women, as well as men. Most people look better in winter. A certain Liz Jones of the Mail is no help at all. She is horrid about everything Lord M wore in Corfu, condemns his perfectly nice leather sandals and insists that middle-aged men should only wear light-weight suits and shirts in summer. Now the Riverside Multis might like this. They wear made-to-measure suits all the year round, even on Saturdays. In one of them’s dressing room on Sunday, I saw a selection bagged up from the cleaners ready to be shipped out to Italy. But they also have a casual look which consists of lumberjack shirt, hefty masculine army shorts and big butch boots. Is this what they will wear in Tuscany? See Style in the News

I think Lord M would be a perfect candidate for a style makeover by Gok. Imagine seeing all Lord M’s clothes strung out on a washing line across the Thames right next to Westminster Bridge. You wouldn’t see the water through the flapping of khaki, navy blue and white .The Lord knows the Lord needs some COLOUR. BTW did you hear him flirting with Evan Davies on R4 this morning?
Thank you for your gorgeous comment. I do agree. I am sure he could be saved. As a man of 55 he is really quite presentable – in the bare outline as it were.
No, I didn’t hear them on Today. Dear Thin White Duchess also mentioned it here. As it happens I was once on Today myself. Nightmare.
