The Gay Mother likes cutlets. I cooked them for her, with a lemon and oregano salsa. Her only comment: \u2018Is yours done?\u2019 Deathly silence.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, she was in torment for days because the Easter lamb for Cousin Smurry and Aunt Smidge wasn\u2019t hot \u2013 so she said.<\/p>\n<p>Then I get a text from the lovely Lord Arrowby: \u2018My mother is being very rude about English lamb&#8230;.only fit for the Merchant Navy etc.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Which is strange because when I was eight, Easter was early and English lamb was not available or too expensive. The Gay Mother got New Zealand. I passed the lunch hour on the swing, boycotting the horror.<\/p>\n<p>In one way and another, you can see why we grew up Poor Little Rich Gays, can\u2019t you?<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s always trouble about the Easter lamb. Some people don\u2019t have it, which is outrageous. It is absolutely required, the Lamb of Sacrifice also strangely to be eaten by believers which I am not. But I shed a tear during the singing of \u2018Thine be the Glory, risen, conquering son\u2019 in church yesterday. Easter is in every way superior to Christmas. No soppy baby with \u2018Away in a Manger\u2019 being sung at it. Instead the glamour and terror of the Resurrection and much better hymns.<\/p>\n<p>Cousin Smurry\u2019s still battling with that puppy (you remember Christmas was near cancelled on account of), so she and Aunt Smidge couldn\u2019t come over to us as per for lamb roast. Instead they offered a <em>casserole<\/em> (a joint impossible because of dog)\u00a0 in their house.<\/p>\n<p>Well, it was a <em>lamb<\/em> casserole \u2013 and good.
